Scholarship Procedure Overview
Each year the Columbia, SC Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club (CSCBSMC) Scholarship Committee will provide a minimum of one $500.00 scholarship for Graduating High School Senior/GED recipient during the 2021 Fall / 2022 Summer school year who will be attending post-secondary or vocational/trade school in 2022.

The CSCBSMC Scholarship Committee is comprised of a chairperson and four representatives from the CSCBSMC chapter. They will be the points of contact to represent the chapter. The committee will establish the application deadline, receive, and review all scholarship applications for vetting. The Scholarship Committee will update the Executive Board on the scholarship selections prior to briefing the entire club. The Scholarship Committee will communicate with the Executive Board, and if all funds are not disbursed, those funds will be carried over to the following scholarship year.

Marketing of the Scholarship Program
Soldiers are encouraged to reach out to the community to promote the Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Program will also be advertised at all CSCBSMC events in order to promote the Program and to increase the number of scholarships submitted each year. The application is located on the CSCBSMC website. Completed applications may be submitted electronically to cscbsmc.scholorship@gmail.com or mailed to Columbia SC Chapter of Buffalo Soldiers at PO Box 25307 Columbia, SC 29224 and RECEIVED by March 28th.
The following are required to complete your application:

Applicant must be an eligible Graduating High School Senior/GED recipient during the 2021 Fall / 2022 Summer school year who will be attending post-secondary or vocational/trade school in 2022.

Official High School Transcript, Home School Transcript or GED Test Score (No GED Certificate)

A 500-word essay on the topics described below

Letter of recommendation on official letter head from a teacher/guidance counselor/school administrator, and/or employer (for GED).

Letter of recommendation on letterhead from a community service organization
-
A letter of acceptance to an institution of higher learning

Signed Release Form (enclosed)

Parent’s signature if student is under 18 years old

Prepare a letter of introduction, who you are, your accomplishments to date, family background, and the degree/certificate to which you are seeking. Provide a summary on how you plan to use the scholarship, if selected. Also incorporate, how this scholarship will benefit you in giving back to your community.

Recent professional head shot photo (In Good Taste)

Provide Student’s name, the complete name and address of the school and/or financial aid office where the student will be attending school and student ID number.
Eligibility

Applicant must be an eligible Graduating High School Senior/GED recipient during the 2021 Fall / 2022 Summer school year who will be attending post-secondary or vocational/trade school in 2022. Relatives of the Columbia Chapter of Buffalo Soldiers are eligible to apply.

Procedure

Each year the Treasurer will transfer all funds raised to the Scholarship Fund.

Chairperson and Chapter members are selected.

Scholarship deadline will be March 28th of each year.

Selection Process:

The Scholarship Committee will begin its review process by 28 March of each year,
-
The candidate’s name will be removed, and a grading matrix will be used to assign a ranking to each candidate.

The selections will be made by the Scholarship Committee by 1 April of each year.

The Scholarship Committee will update the Executive Board by 29 March of each year.

The Chapter will be informed at the next meeting.

Unused funds will remain in the Scholarship Fund to be included in future years.

The Scholarship committee will notify the winners and schedule the presentation.
